Striker Christian Benteke is one of a number
of first-choice players to be rested by manager Brendan Rodgers when
Liverpool open their Europa League campaign in Bordeaux on Thursday.
The £32.5m summer signing from Aston Villa was left behind on Merseyside, along with James Milner, Nathaniel Clyne, Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren and Lucas Leiva.
This all means that Mamadou Sakho is in line to make his first appearance of the season alongside Kolo Toure in what is likely to be a much-changed back four for the clash at the Stade de Bordeaux on Thursday night (kick-off 6pm BST).
Up front, Belgium striker Divock Origi could make the first start of his Liverpool career while midfielder Adam Lallana has returned to fitness and is in contention to play.
The match in France kicks off Liverpool's Group B fixtures that will also include matches against FC Sion of Switzerland and Russian club Ruban Kazan.
